INDELIBLE MOMENT On Nov. 27, 1998, behind running back Trung Canidate's three TDs and a school-record 288 yards, the Wildcats outlasted Arizona State 50--42. The win capped the best regular season (11--1) in school history.
COLLEGE KNOWLEDGE
Bear Down, the school's battle cry and unofficial fight song, originated from the last words of a dying man. In 1928 quarterback and student body president John Salmon suffered a severe spinal cord injury in a car accident. His last words to legendary coach McKale: "Tell them ... tell the team to bear down."
