Sonny, a junior forward who attends Pioneer High in Ann Arbor, Mich., through the National Team Development Program, had two goals and an assist for the U.S. Under-17 team in a 6--1 championship win over the host country at the Four Nations Tournament in Monthey, Switzerland. He led the squad with six points, including a shootout goal in a 5--4 semifinal win over Russia, to help the U.S. go unbeaten for its fourth straight title in the event. Sonny verbally committed to Notre Dame.
DARDENNE PRAIRIE, MO. > FIELD HOCKEY
Kate, a senior center midfielder at Lafayette High, had a hat trick and four assists in an 8--0 win over Parkway South in October to break the national high school mark for assists in a four-year career, with 128. She finished with 135 and was named Public School all-conference player of the year. Last season she helped the Lancers win their first state title, defeating Cor Jesu 2--0 to become the first public school to win the Missouri crown in 30 years. Kate is a member of the U-19 junior national team.
MENTOR, OHIO > FOOTBALL
Mitch, a senior at Mentor High, threw for a two-point conversion in triple overtime to defeat Cleveland's St. Ignatius 57--56 in the Division 1 regional final. He passed for 411 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 138 yards and four scores. A week earlier he led the Cardinals to a 63--56 come-from-behind win over top-ranked St. Edward, with 478 passing yards and four TDs, plus two rushing scores. Mitch had 4,065 passing yards this season before the team's semifinal loss. He will play at UNC.
