What Would Happen If NBA Players Fought Like Hockey Players?
Last month, Washington Wizards center Marcin Gortat said that NBA players should be allowed to fight like hockey players.
A lot of people chose to focus on the reasons that this is a bad idea, but we at Extra Mustard like to keep an open mind. So, to test Gortat's theory, we created replicas of NBA stars in EA's NHL 14 and made them fight. You know... in the name of science. You can view our research below:
For our own curiosity, we decided to create match ups between players who have had some tension in the past and thus might be inclined to fight, if such a thing were condoned by the NBA.
Russell Westbrook vs. Patrick Beverley
There's certainly no love lost between Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook. Westbrook suffered a season-ending knee injury during last year's playoffs after Beverley lunged at him to collect a loose ball, causing the Thunder's point guard to tear his meniscus. Things only escalated when the two teams met earlier this season:
Since they're right on the precipice anyhow, perhaps it would be best if Westbrook and Beverley just dropped the gloves.
Tyler Hansbrough vs. Metta World Peace
Tyler Hansbrough and Metta World Peace get to fight only because they were both involved in easily the best Vine of the season:
Carmelo Anthony vs. Kevin Garnett
Carmelo Anthony reportedly attempted to confront the Celtics team bus last season after a heated game at Madison Square Garden. It was rumored that Garnett said to Anthony that his wife "tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios" during the contest, which would explain why the Knicks forward was so (understandably) incensed. Regardless of the veracity exchange, there are probably quite a few people in the NBA who wouldn't mind watching Carmelo and KG sort out their differences with a bout of fistacuffs.
David Stern vs. Mark Cuban
