Following the conviction, the judge presiding over the case issued Mitchell a mandatory life sentence for murder, and another 40 years for being convicted of armed robbery. According to to testimony in the case cited in the report, Mitchell was instrumental in planning and coordinating a plan for five Fort Myers men to burglarize Taylor's home after they had learned about large sums of cash being held there.
