Despite Team USA's opening 99-72 victory over New Zealand in the FIBA World Cup, Brandon Ingram voiced his frustration over lack of playing time in an interview with Joe Vardon of The Athletic on Sunday

The talented NBA power forward, who averaged a career-high 24.7 points per game last season with New Orleans, is unhappy with his playing time in the international competition.

“This is totally different than what I am used to,” Ingram told Vardon. “The team is winning right now, so I can’t be selfish thinking about myself. But it’s a little frustrating right now for me, and I’m just trying to figure out ways I can be effective.”

The NBA’s 2020 Most Improved Player posted just two points, two rebounds and three rebounds in 16 minutes of playing against New Zealand, after only averaging 7.8 points per game during the team’s exhibition slate.

Head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged Ingram's lack of opportunities but stressed the standout's time is coming and he just needs to remain focused and prepared for when his name is called.

"He hasn't had a lot of opportunities, but I think that'll change. I think his time is coming. He's just gotta stay with it,” said USA coach Steve Kerr. “The thing I've learned with FIBA is every night belongs to someone new....I expect that to happen for B.I."

The NBA All-Star has taken a back seat to Paolo Banchero, Anthony Edwards, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Mikal Bridges.
