When the NBA resumes its season on July 31st the Spurs will be the 12th seed in the Western Conference. With a 27-36 record, they are five games behind the Grizzlies who are the current eighth seed in the West. Can the Spurs gain ground and punch a ticket to the post-season?

San Antonio’s leading scorer DeMar DeRozan will have his work cut out for him as the 6’6 small forward is the Spurs only player to average more than 22 points per game. Combine that with the fact LaMarcus Aldridge, who is the Spurs second-leading scorer, will miss the remainder of the season and it will certainly be an uphill battle for the Gregg Popovich coached squad.

Sports Illustrated’s gambling analyst Corey Parson weighs in on what sports gamblers should bet on when it comes to the Spurs playoff chances.

Read the transcript from his analysis:

Kaitlin O'Toole: The NBA futures betting market is back and we are breaking down the San Antonio Spurs. Joining me now is SI fantasy and gambling analyst Corey Parson. Corey, when the NBA teams head to Orlando to go into the playoff bubble, how would you bet the Spurs?

Corey Parson: Well, Kaitlin, when you look at a situation that's going on, when you go inside the playoff bubble, people's initial thoughts are going to be that the team with the stronger coaches are going to be better prepared to handle this different time right here. You look at Gregg Popovich, one of the strongest coaches in the NBA, maybe in NBA history, but the San Antonio Spurs weren't playing that well this year. They had a five-game losing streak in February, then didn't start the month of March off too good as well. As a matter of fact, before the season paused, they actually lost a double-overtime game to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now LaMarcus Aldridge is out for the rest of the season, yet they still have DeMar DeRozan and some veterans. Yet, I have to be honest with you... I think it's going to be a tough time for the San Antonio Spurs in that bubble. I'd be staying away from them. I think I'd always bet on the other team against the Spurs.

Kaitlin O'Toole: All right, good insight, Corey. Thanks so much for it. Appreciate it.
