Boxing icon Oscar De La Hoya stated that he did not attend the press conference following the Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Ryan Garcia fight because he received death threats.

“My security team told me ‘boss we gotta get the f--- out of here’ because I received death threats,” De La Hoya said in the video. “You guys don’t know this, I received death threats throughout the whole week and they just said it was simply too dangerous, so we got out of there.”

Garcia is backed by Golden Boy Promotions, which is owned by De La Hoya. The boxing legend also revealed that his partner, former boxer Bernard Hopkins, was not allowed to attend the post-fight news conference after being accused of trying to touch Davis while having testosterone cream on his hands during weigh-ins between the two fighters.

Davis (29–0) delivered a seventh-round technical knockout of Garcia (23–1) on Saturday. Despite the defeat and missing the post-fight media session, De La Hoya stated he was proud of Garcia but that the “best man” won Saturday’s bout.

“Ryan Garcia, I have your back,” De La Hoya said. “Bernard [Hopkins] has your back. We’re with you 100% and you will be back stronger than ever, better than ever. Guaranteed.”
