CFL Draft Defensive Lineman Prospect Tennessee Tech Kail Dava Has Surgery
One of the top prospects in the 2024 CFL Draft received a tough break.
Tennessee Tech defensive lineman Kail Dava underwent shoulder surgery that will keep him out for a while.
Sources told 3Down Nation reporter John Hodge that Dava had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. Dava is expected to miss between six to nine months.
The Mississauga, Ontario native was ranked as the No. 18 prospect in the CFL’s Scouting Bureau rankings in August.
Dava recorded 87 tackles, eight sacks, 24.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble in five seasons at Tennessee Tech. In 2023, he recorded 15 total tackles and half a sack. He was named a Phil Steele FCS Freshman All-American in 2019 after recording a career-high four sacks that season.
His high school career was at Clarkson Football North in Mississauga where he played three seasons on the team. Dava was named as the team’s Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, and Defensive MVP during his time there.
The CFL draft takes place sometime in early May. The Edmonton Elks have the top pick. Dava could still get drafted in one of the first three rounds.
