BC Lions Add Six American Receivers To Offense

The BC Lions took aim at their receiving core by signing six American wide receivers to the roster.

BC Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. will have some new weapons on offense next season with the team making additions to the roster.

The Lions announced signing the following six American wide receivers:

  • Jeff Cotton
  • Taylor Grimes
  • Charles Headen III
  • Ed Lee
  • Mataio Talalemotu
  • John Ursua

Cotton has played on four different NFL teams since 2020, including the Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals. He attended Idaho for three seasons, racking up 132 receptions for 1,732 yards and 13 touchdowns in his college career.

Grimes went to training camp with the Denver Broncos in 2023 before being cut from the team. In two seasons at Incarnate Word, he recorded 170 catches for 2,366 yards and 30 touchdowns. He won Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2021.

Headen finished up his first season in the Indoor Football League mostly used on special teams, recording 1,143 return yards. His performance earned him Special Teams Player of the Year.

Lee went undrafted before attending training camp with the New England Patriots this year. After being released, he signed with the Orlando Guardians of the XFL. He was previously an All-CAA Football selection in 2022 with Rhode Island in college.

Tatalemotu attended minicamp with the Tennessee Titans this year after playing for Portland State in college, where he caught 121 passes for 1,857 yards and 16 touchdowns in five seasons.

Ursua was a member of the practice roster for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in September. He is a former NFL seventh-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2019 and also spent time with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. He recorded one catch for 11 yards in his NFL career.

The Lions also signed three players to their defense in their first moves made since retaining their entire coaching staff for the 2024 season.
