BC Lions Add Three Defensive Players

The BC Lions signed three players to the defense, including veteran defensive back Lawrence Woods III.

It has been a relatively quiet couple of weeks for the BC Lions during the offseason. They made some buzz on Monday adding three players to the team.

The team announced the signings of defensive back Lawrence Woods III, linebacker Jake Carlock and defensive lineman Janathian Turner.

Woods has played in 21 games in the CFL the past two seasons for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He recorded 23 defensive tackles and 11 special teams tackles. As a special teams returner, he returned 56 kickoffs for 1,267 yards and one touchdown.

Before his CFL career, Woods went to school at Truman State, racking up 79 tackles, 27 pass deflections, five interceptions, and two sacks in 25 games. He also returned five kickoffs for touchdowns. After college, he went to training camp with the New Orleans Saints in 2021.

Carlock signed with BC in 2021, but ultimately decided to retire from football at the time. He played for the New York Giants back in 2019, returning an interception for a touchdown in the preseason. During his two seasons at Stony Brook, he recorded 133 total tackles and four interceptions.

Turner most recently played five seasons collegiately for Gardner-Webb. He finished his career with 195 total tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and one pass deflection in 51 games.

BC finished last year with a 12-6 overall record losing in the West Final against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
