Best Games on 2024 CFL Schedule
Fans got some much-needed excitement last week as the CFL released its 2024 schedule.
The next season will feature a much more balanced approach to the schedule than in previous years, preventing teams from having to face each other as many as four times during the regular season alone.
With the playing field leveled out a bit more, we should be treated to some exciting matchups this upcoming season. Here is a look at some of the most anticipated games on the 2024 schedule.
Best 2024 CFL Matchups
CFL Games to Look Forward to Watching
Week 1 – Montreal Alouettes vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
CFL fans won't have to wait long for the most anticipated rematch of the season. As they did during the instant classic Grey Cup this past November, the defending champion Montreal Alouettes and runner-up Winnipeg Blue Bombers will face off in the first game of the 2024 season. While some are disappointed the Alouettes won't be hosting, it should still be one of the top matchups of the year.
Week 1 – Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Calgary Stampeders
Fans did not get the opportunity last year to see Tiger-Cats quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell square off against the team he played for for 10 seasons. Should Mitchell stay put in Hamilton, however, they'll finally get their chance in Week 1 when Hamilton faces the Calgary Stampeders. Both teams experienced their ups and downs last season and are hoping to take steps forward in 2024.
Week 4 – Montreal Alouettes vs. Toronto Argonauts
Montreal makes another appearance on the list when they take on one of the league’s best offenses in the Toronto Argonauts. There’s still uncertainty on which key players will be back for Toronto, but most importantly, the CFL’s MOP Chad Kelly is back at quarterback for the Argonauts. This will be a tightly-contested East Division matchup that will likely have a big impact on playoff seeding later in the year.
Week 5 – Toronto Argonauts vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders
New Saskatchewan coach Corey Mace is set to face off against the team he was the defensive coordinator of when the Roughriders face Toronto. Trevor Harris is projected to be the starting quarterback for the Roughriders as of now, which should make for an intriguing matchup against Kelly. This game will be a good benchmark to see where the Roughriders are at early on in Mace's tenure at the helm.
Week 21 – Calgary Stampeders vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders
Looking ahead to the final week of the season, the matchup between Calgary and Saskatchewan has the feeling of a game with major playoff implications. Both teams went 6-12 a season ago and are in the process of rebuilding their franchises. The two teams should have a better outlook in 2024, which could result in a Week 21 battle for a playoff spot.
