Calgary Stampeders 2024 Pending Free Agents
The Calgary Stampeders made the playoffs in 2023, but it certainly didn’t feel like it.
The Stampeders finished 6-12 in the West Division and claimed the third playoff spot out of the division. Their season ended with a 40-31 loss in the Western Semifinal against the BC Lions.
Calgary hasn’t been to the Grey Cup since winning the title in 2018 over Ottawa. The Stampeders are hoping for a turnaround in 2024.
The CFL released the free agency tracker to keep tabs on all pending free agents for each of the nine CFL teams. Calgary has 37 players on the free-agent list.
Here is the full list of Stampeders heading into free agency broken down by position and whether they are American (A), National (N), or Global (G). We also break down the top four players entering free agency for Calgary.

Top Four Calgary Stampeders Free Agents
LB Micah Awe
Awe led all CFL players in tackles last season with 134 and was one of two Stampeders to earn CFL All-Star honors. He has played for more than half of the league’s teams, but he gave Calgary every reason to keep him after this season. He showed a complete recovery from the shoulder injury that cut short his season with the Montreal Alouettes in 2022.
DT Mike Rose
Rose had 10 sacks to lead Calgary in 2023 and was the team’s other CFL All-Star selection. Both he and Awe were CFL West All-Star selections. He’s a long-time Stampeder, signing with the team in 2017 after an unsuccessful stint with the New York Giants. He is one of their few links remaining to the 2018 Grey Cup season. He’s been a CFL All-Star each of the last three seasons.
C Sean McEwen
McEwen was the only other Stampeder free agent to earn All-CFL West Division honors in 2023. He took the selection as a center. The Calgary native is closing in on 10 years in the CFL after he started his career in Toronto in 2016. He’s been with the Stampeders since 2020. Along the way he’s earned four CFL All-Star selections.
RB Dedrick Mills
Mills was Calgary’s leading rusher in 2023, as he gained 802 yards and scored four touchdowns. He doubled his touchdown output from 2022 and nearly doubled his yardage output. The injury to Ka’Deem Carey paved the way for more playing time for Mills. With Carey also a free agent, it will be interesting to see what the Stampeders do. Carey was a CFL All-Star in 2022.
