Dewayne Hendrix Expected to Sign with Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats added talent to their defensive line as the team agreed to terms with defensive lineman Dewayne Hendrix, according to 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk.
Last season was the best year of Hendrix’s CFL career, racking up 23 tackles, one forced fumble and a career-high six sacks in 15 games with the Toronto Argonauts. He has been in the CFL since 2021 and has played his whole career with the Argos. His three-season career stats include 66 total tackles, eight sacks and one forced fumble.
Before the CFL, Hendrix played in the XFL in 2020 with the St. Louis Battlehawks producing four tackles, one sack and one quarterback hurry in five games. He also played in the NFL in 2019 with three different teams including the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hendrix will be joining CFL All-Star defensive tackle Casey Sayles on the Tiger-Cats defensive line, making the interior of the line one of the best in the CFL. Hamilton is staying in the market for defensive linemen as the team is reportedly in the running for BC Lions defensive end Matthieu Betts, according to TSN’s Farhan Lalji.
Hamilton has 26 total pending free agents come Feb. 13. It appears the Tiger-Cats will be aggressive in free agency as they build the team to be in the running for the Grey Cup in 2024.
