Edmonton Elks Sign Defensive Lineman, Receiver

The Edmonton Elks signed two players Friday in defensive lineman Sam Acheampong and wide receiver Arland Bruce IV.

The Edmonton Elks announced the roster transactions, signing a contract extension with defensive lineman Sam Acheampong and a new contract with wide receiver Arland Bruce IV.

Acheampong was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the 2020 CFL Draft. He spent two-and-a-half seasons with the team, winning a Grey Cup along the way. His stats with the Argos include 35 total tackles and eight sacks in 30 games played.

In July, Acheampong was traded to the Elks in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft and Negotiation List rights to wide receiver Xavier Gipson. In 12 games with Edmonton, Acheampong recorded 15 defensive tackles and one sack.

In two seasons attending the University of Iowa, Bruce caught 44 passes for 396 yards and two touchdowns in 25 games. Bruce is the son of former CFL All-Star Arland Bruce III, who won two Grey Cups and was named an All-Star three times in 12 seasons.

Seven players have been signed by Edmonton since the start of the offseason. The Elks finished the 2023 season with a 4-14 overall record and missed the playoffs.
