Green Day would look and sound great at a Super Bowl halftime show.

For now, we'll have to be content with their performance during the CFL's Grey Cup halftime Sunday night.

The American band from East Bay, Cali., is drawing rave reviews from fans on social media after a blistering four-song set at Tim Horton Field in Hamilton, Ontario.

The punk-pop trio played four of their most well-known tunes: "The American Dream Is Killing Me," "Basket Case," "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Holiday."

The last time the NFL used a rock-and-roll band for its Super Bowl halftime extravaganza it was Coldplay in 2016. And, if we're being honest, most of their catalog isn't exactly rock-and-roll.

Green Day's Grey Cup performance was different than Super Bowl halftime shows in one big way. The stage was stationed at one end of the field, so there was no massive logistical set up required. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong encouraged fans to sing along as the band played "Holiday," one of two songs performed from their 2004 classic "American Idiot."
