Alouettes Celebrate Grey Cup with Victory Parade in Montreal

The city of Montreal celebrated the Alouettes’ Grey Cup victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with a parade in the city Wednesday.

It has been a celebration 13 years in the making as the Montreal Alouettes returned home with a Grey Cup to be celebrated with their home city. The city of Montreal hosted a parade for the freshly-crowned champions after they pulled off a major upset over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-24 on Sunday.

The parade began Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. local time at the corner of Maisonneuve Boulevard and Crescent Street. They would proceed down Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles on a cloudy, rainy, foggy day in Montreal.

There were festivities at Le Parterre which is a public square located at de Maisonneuve and Clark Street. It consisted of player introductions, including quarterback Cody Fajardo bringing the Grey Cup trophy on stage for the fans to see.

Canadian news outlets reported fans from Montreal and Quebec were in attendance for the parade and celebration that lasted roughly two hours. While there wasn’t any announcement of how many people were in attendance, there were plenty of images and videos showing how packed the streets of Montreal looked.

The Alouettes won their eighth Grey Cup in franchise history on Sunday after Fajardo threw a game-winning touchdown to Tyson Philpot with 13 seconds left. The Als haven’t won a Grey Cup since 2010 when they defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 21-18.
