There hasn’t been a team in the CFL who has been more active in re-signing their current players than the Montreal Alouettes. The team announced bringing back three additional players in Canadian running back Jeshrun Antwi, American defensive lineman Avery Ellis and American defensive back Najee Murray.

“We are very pleased that these three veterans are back with us,” general manager Danny Maciocia said in a statement. “Jeshrun brings a lot to our Canadian ratio. He knows our playbook and his attitude is excellent. Ellis has played the role of big brother for many players in our locker room since 2022. The guys respect him. Murray was at the top of his game before he got hurt last year, we can’t wait to see him again.”

Antwi has been with the organization for three seasons, racking up 229 yards and one touchdown on 39 carries. He scored a touchdown in the playoffs this year to help Montreal take the Grey Cup. The team selected him with the 48th overall pick in the 2019 CFL Draft.

Ellis completed his first year with Montreal, putting up nine defensive tackles, one sack and one special teams tackle in 13 games. He had four total tackles in the Grey Cup win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last year. Ellis previously played four seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks.

Murray played in just six games last season before his injury ended his season early. He registered 33 defensive tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery. Montreal signed Murray in 2018.

The Alouettes have extended nine of their 22 players who are set to be free agents on Feb. 13.
