Montreal Alouettes Rookie Lwal Uguak Signs with Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The CFL sees another player head to the NFL, with the Montreal Alouettes losing one of their key future defensive ends as Lwal Uguak signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a reserve/future contract.
Montreal selected Uguak in the first round of the 2023 CFL Draft. He worked his way into the starting lineup at the end of the season, playing in all 18 games. Uguak finished the season with 16 tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble and five pass deflections. He was able to help the Alouettes win the Grey Cup in November.
Uguak spent the first three college seasons of college at Connecticut (2018-21), registering 69 tackles, four pass deflections, four sacks and one forced fumble. His senior season in 2022 was with the TCU Horned Frogs, racking up nine tackles.
Uguak joins Austin Mack and Tyreik McAllister as CFL players who have signed with NFL teams this offseason. Mack signed with the Atlanta Falcons and McAllister joined the Las Vegas Raiders.
CFL players have until Feb. 13 to sign with NFL teams before the window closes and CFL free agency begins.
