Grey Cup Champs Montreal Alouettes Re-Sign Four Players

The Montreal Alouettes are bringing back American tackle Josh Donovan, American linebacker Chris Moore, Canadian offensive lineman Jesse Gibbon and global kicker Jose Maltos.

In the last couple of weeks, the Montreal Alouettes have been focused on re-signing players to the 2024 roster. That focus was kept on Friday as they went back to work on bringing the players back.

The team announced the re-signing of four players. Here are the three players who were brought back on a two-year contract extension:

  • Josh Donovan, Tackle (American)
  • Chris Moore, Linebacker (American)
  • Jesse Gibbon, Offensive Lineman (Canadian)

There was one additional re-signing with global kicker Jose Maltos being brought back on a one-year contract.

Donovan was signed with the team in July to add depth to the offensive line. He spent the rest of the season on the practice roster. Before the CFL, he played at the University of Arizona for four years and participated in the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp earlier this year.

Moore played in three games this season for Montreal, recording one defensive tackle and three special teams tackles. He had a successful run in college at Georgia State recording 103 total tackles, one sack, one interception, five pass deflections and two forced fumbles in two seasons. In 2022, he had a stint in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens.

Gibbon was acquired in a trade back in February as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats sent him to Montreal. He appeared in 17 regular season games and one playoff game. Hamilton drafted him second overall in the 2019 CFL Draft.

Maltos played in two games for Montreal last season as he converted on seven field goals. He added 10 kickoffs for 610 yards. The Ottawa Redblacks drafted him in the 2019 CFL-LFA Draft playing three seasons there. He participated in the New Orleans Saints training camp earlier this year.

This would now mark 11 players the Alouettes have re-signed in the last two weeks after winning the Grey Cup in November.
