Montreal Alouettes WR Austin Mack Signs with Atlanta Falcons
Less than a week after working out with the Atlanta Falcons, Montreal Alouettes wide receiver Austin Mack signed a contract with the NFL team.
Mack made the announcement on social media, shared a picture of himself at the Falcons’ headquarters signing his contract.
The 26-year-old receiver made a lot of noise in his one CFL season, finishing with 78 receptions for 1,154 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games and earning CFL All-Star and CFL East All-Star selections. He also helped Montreal defeat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 28-24, in the 2023 Grey Cup with a 104-yard performance.
Before joining the CFL, Mack spent three seasons in the NFL, starting with the New York Giants after going unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft. Mack caught seven passes for 91 yards that year, including a 50-yard catch in one game. He also had brief stints with the Tennessee Titans and the San Francisco 49ers.
Mack played three of his four seasons at Ohio State, where he caught 77 receptions for 1,035 yards and six touchdowns in 33 games.
The signing comes the day after the Falcons parted ways with coach Arthur Smith following Atlanta's 48-17 loss to division rival New Orleans in the season closer.
Since the offseason began for the CFL, Mack is the first player who played the whole 2023 season to sign with an NFL team. Several players have been working out with NFL teams during the offseason.
January 8 is the first day CFL players can sign with NFL teams. The CFL’s free agency period begins February 14.
