Nathan Rourke Signed to Jacksonville Jaguars Active Roster, Trevor Lawrence Questionable

The Jacksonville Jaguars elevated former CFL quarterback Nathan Rourke from the practice squad to the active roster with Trevor Lawrence questionable Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

In a move that was expected to happen, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be carrying three quarterbacks on their active roster Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. The third quarterback will be former CFL quarterback Nathan Rourke.

Rourke was signed to the Jaguars’ active roster, the team announced Saturday, possibly giving a clue to the status of starter Trevor Lawrence.

The move to add Rourke comes after Lawrence injured his ankle in the overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. CJ Beathard came in to finish the game.

Lawrence is listed as questionable and has not been ruled out officially for Sunday.

Beathard has been dealing with his own injury to his left shoulder being limited in practice this week. Lawrence has also been limited in practice this week with the ankle injury.

Starting this season, the NFL implemented a new rule that teams can carry an emergency third quarterback without impacting the 48 players active on gameday.

Rourke is known for his short, but memorable two seasons in the CFL for the BC Lions. He started nine games in 2022 throwing for 3,349 yards and 25 touchdowns to ten interceptions leading the team to the playoffs. For his performance, Rourke was rewarded with the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian award.

He signed a three-year contract with Jacksonville in January. After a strong performance in the preseason, the Jaguars kept him on their practice squad. He was last on the active roster in mid-October.
