Ottawa Redblacks, Brandin Dandridge Agree to Two-Year Extension

The Ottawa Redblacks are bringing back one of their top defensive backs and special teamers on a new contract.

As teams across the league are focused early in the offseason on retaining their top players, the Ottawa Redblacks locked in one of theirs for 2024 and 2025.

The team announced Thursday the re-signing of defensive back Brandin Dandridge to a two-year contract extension through the 2025 season.

“Ottawa is the only CFL city I’ve called home and I’m looking forward to sticking around for at least two more years,” Dandridge said in a statement Friday. “We have unfinished business to take care of as a team and I’m fortunate to be able to come back and help us do that.”

Dandridge had the best season of his career last year, recording five interceptions — two of which he returned for touchdowns. He also added 24 defensive tackles and a forced fumble in 13 games while returning 15 kickoffs for 328 yards for an average of 21.9 yards per return. He was named the team’s special teams player of the year.

“Brandin Dandridge has continued to develop during his time in Ottawa and play at a very high level for our football club,” Redblacks General Manager Shawn Burke said. “We’re happy Brandin has chosen to commit to the Redblacks for two years and are looking forward to seeing him back on the field in 2024.”

Dandridge has spent all four seasons of his CFL career with Ottawa, racking up 62 total tackles, nine interceptions, three forced fumbles and two touchdowns in 31 total games. He also had a brief stint in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs at the team's training camp in 2022.

Dandridge was one of 33 pending free agents for the Redblacks, with free agency set to begin in February.
