Ottawa Redblacks Stay Busy During Opening Week of Free Agency
After making a bold statement by trading for quarterback Dru Brown weeks ago, the Ottawa Redblacks stayed relatively low-key through the opening week of the CFL free agency period with a series of less flashy moves.
The team announced the signings of 10 American players through Thursday:
- LB Silas Stewart
- OL Phillip Norman
- WR Joseph Walker
- OL Samuel Jackson
- WR Kalil Pimpleton
- WR Dontay Demus Jr.
- WR Tyler Hudson
- OL Des Holmes
- OL Austin Myers
- RB Kylin Hill
Stewart has spent the past three seasons in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders. His best year came in 2022 when he produced 55 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in 18 games. Since joining the CFL, he has contributed 82 total tackles in 35 games.
Norman, who had played for the BC Lions since 2018, struggled with his health in 2023. Both a calf tear and a medical event suffered in June derailed his season.
The rest of the signings for Ottawa focused on offense, with four wide receivers, three offensive linemen and one running back joining the team.
Ottawa opens their 2024 season on June 13 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
