Ottawa Redblacks Hire New Offensive Coordinator for 2024

The Ottawa Redblacks have brought on a new offensive coordinator, with Tommy Condell taking over the role.

The Ottawa Redblacks have found their man. The team named Tommy Condell as their offensive coordinator for 2024, making the announcement Monday afternoon via X.

The hiring marks Condell's fourth offensive coordinator job in the CFL.

Condell started his coaching career at the college level with Illinois Wesleyan back in 1995, and he made the move to the CFL in 1997 when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers hired him as their special teams coordinator. He has since held offensive coordinator roles with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts.

Hamilton has been Condell’s home since his second stint with the team began back in 2019. He was the offensive coordinator from 2013-15 as well.

This past season, Hamilton was fourth in the CFL in total offense, averaging 367.2 yards per game in 2023. Hamilton has made the playoffs four times since 2019, with two Grey Cup appearances during that span.

Meanwhile, the Redblacks finished the 2023 season with a 4-14 overall record, and their offense was ranked seventh in total offense with 347.9 yards per game. Their 36 turnovers on the year were also tied for the most in the league.

A change to the offense was much needed for the Redblacks, and judging by Condell’s success with Hamilton, they have reason to be optimistic about seeing improvement in 2024.
