Ottawa Redblacks Revamp 2024 Coaching Staff

Amid the craziness that was CFL free agency, the Ottawa Redblacks named their coaching staff for the 2024 season.

The 2024 Ottawa Redblacks coaching staff made some changes, especially on the offense side. The new coaching staff is headlined by head coach Bob Dyce, who enters his second season with the club.

Dyce was the interim coach in 2022, going 1-3 over the last four games of the season. The interim tag was taken off with last year and the Redblacks went 4-14. He also coached the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2015, going 3-6 through the back half of that season. Dyce has been a CFL assistant or head coach since 2003.

The biggest change to the coaching staff for 2024 was at offensive coordinator with Tommy Condell entering his first year with the team. Condell had held the same position with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 2019-23. He started with the CFL as a coach in 1997, winning two Grey Cups with the Tiger-Cats and the Toronto Argonauts.

Baron Miles is entering his second season as defensive coordinator for the Redblacks. Miles was defensive coordinator for the Montreal Alouettes from 2021-22. He has also coached four other CFL teams during his career. As a player, he was a five-time All-Star for Montreal and the BC Lions.

Going into the season, there will be four new coaches on the staff and five who are returning from last year’s squad.

Here is the rest of the coaching staff for the 2024 season.

  • Deion Melvin, Linebackers Coach
  • Alex Suber, Defensive Backs Coach
  • Travis Moore, Receivers Coach and Pass Game Coordinator
  • Nate Taylor, Running Backs Coach
  • Nadia Doucoure, Coaches’ Assistant
  • Pat Perles, Offensive Line Coach
  • Cory McDiarmid, Special Teams Coach

“I’m delighted to have Barron, Cory, Nathan, Travis, and Nadia remain on staff, and excited to announce the additions of Tommy, Alex, Pat, and Deion to the group,” Dyce said in his statement last week. “The new coaches bring a wealth of knowledge, passion, and energy. It’s a great combination of experience and youth, and we all look forward to working with the players and having a successful 2024 season.”

Ottawa opens the season on June 13 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
