One of the biggest questions going into the CFL offseason is whether Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell will return to the team or go elsewhere.

The conversation began after Hamilton’s 27-12 loss to the Montreal Alouettes in the first round of the playoffs. Originally, Tiger-Cats head coach Orlondo Steinauer had said during the week that the team would split snaps between Mitchell and Matthew Shiltz. It ended up being Shiltz playing the majority of the game, except late in the fourth quarter.

Shiltz finished the game with just 144 yards and one interception. Mitchell came in the fourth quarter completing just one of four passes for six yards and threw an interception.

After the game, Mitchell shared his frustration with his lack of playing time with the media when answering TSN’s Matthew Scianitti.

“If you’re not playing your highest-paid player on the team in a playoff game, I don’t foresee myself probably being here,” Mitchell said.

In his first season with Hamilton, Mitchell recorded career-worst stats throwing for 1,031 yards with six touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while completing just 58.5 percent of his passes. Injuries kept Mitchell to just six games in the regular season.

Mitchell just completed the first of the three-year contract he signed with Hamilton back in January after being traded from the Calgary Stampeders. His contract would average over $500,000 per year, which includes base plus incentives.

Hamilton went through three quarterbacks due to injuries during the season. The Cats will have some decisions to make as to whether they stick with one of the highest players in the league or go with Taylor Powell/Shiltz behind center in 2024.
