The Saskatchewan Roughriders covered both sides of the football on Tuesday with two signings, bringing in former Navy linebacker Diego Fagot and former Chicago Bears wide receiver Dazz Newsome.

Fagot spent 2022 with the Baltimore Ravens and last year with the New England Patriots. As he was entering the NFL in 2022, he was invited to the East-West Shrine game, where he was named the defensive MVP of the game.

He was one of the top linebackers in the AAC with the Navy Midshipmen in college from 2018 through 2021. The conference named him All-AAC twice, and he racked up a total of 282 tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, two interceptions, five pass deflections, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 42 games.

Newsome was a sixth-round selection of the Chicago Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft, posting two receptions for 23 yards and six punt returns for 75 yards in three appearances. He also spent time on rosters for the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

At North Carolina, Newsome made 188 receptions for 2,435 yards and 24 touchdowns between 2017 and 2020. His performances earned him Second Team All-ACC honors in 2019 and All-ACC Honorable Mention honors in 2020.

Saskatchewan makes these moves after signing defensive back Marcus Murphy and offensive tackle Jonathan Hubbard last week.
