Saskatchewan Roughriders Extend Contract for Injured Receiver

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will have wide receiver Brayden Lenius back for the 2024 season.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will bring back wide receiver Brayden Lenius on a one-year contract for 2024, the team announced on Thursday.

Lenius’ deal is an extension, which comes after a tumultuous season in which he dealt with injuries and missed a good portion of the season.

He lacerated his kidney in the second preseason game and after returning to the field, suffered a Lisfranc injury in Week 8. That kept Lenius out for the rest of the season.

Saskatchewan Roughriders wide receiver Brayden Lenius (89) is returning to the team next season.

He ended up catching two passes for 12 yards this season. But on Thursday, he was given the Jake Gaudaur Award. The award, named for the CFL’s longest-serving commissioner and a World War II veteran, is given to a Canadian CFL player who best demonstrates the attributes of Canada’s veterans: strength, perseverance, courage, comradeship and contribution to Canadian communities.

For his four-year CFL career, all with Saskatchewan, Lenius has caught 58 passes for 659 yards and five touchdowns.

Lenius is from Regina, Saskatchewan, but he played his college football at Washington and New Mexico before the Roughriders selected him in the second round of the 2019 CFL Draft.

Lenius spent part of 2022 with the Atlanta Falcons, signing a free agent deal with them in January of that year. But he was released in July at the start of training camp and he re-joined Saskatchewan the following month.

Saskatchewan finished 6-12 on the season, tied for third in the West Division with Calgary. The Stampeders claimed the final playoff berth out of the West.
