The Saskatchewan Roughriders narrowly missed a playoff berth in the CFL’s West Division in 2023.

The Roughriders finished 6-12 and in a third-place tie with the Calgary Stampeders, but the Stampeders won the tiebreaker and the final playoff berth in the division.

Saskatchewan goes into 2024 trying to win its first Grey Cup since 2013, when the Roughriders defeated Hamilton.

The CFL released its free agency tracker to keep tabs on all pending free agents for each of the nine CFL teams. Saskatchewan had 30 players who will be on the free-agent list.

Here is the full list of Roughriders free agents heading into free agency broken down by position and whether they are American (A), National (N), or Global (G). We also break down four players to watch entering free agency for the Roughriders.

Saskatchewan Roughriders 2024 Free Agents to Watch

Here are four players that the Saskatchewan Roughriders may wish to retain in free agency in 2024.

LB Larry Dean

Dean was a CFL West Division All-Star in 2023 after he registered 104 tackles and two sacks in 18 games. He also picked off two passes. He’s been consistently productive since he started his CFL career in 2016 with Hamilton. He’s had three seasons of 100 or more tackles, has two CFL East All-Star selections, two CFL West All-Star selections and won the James P. McCaffrey Trophy in 2018 as the East Division’s top defender.

RB Jamal Morrow

Morrow is a long-time Roughriders, as he joined the team in 2019 after he wrapped up his college career at Washington State. In 2023 he was sixth in the CFL in rushing with 907 yards and four touchdowns. He set career highs across the board, so his production is well-timed as there’s a potential market outside Saskatchewan for him.

WR Mario Alford

Alford’s position is wide receiver, but he was a CFL West Division All-Star on special teams for the first time. He returned 88 punts for an 11.1-yard average and three touchdowns. As a kick returner he averaged 23.2 yards per return with a long of 62 yards. With that kind of production, the Roughriders would love to have him back in 2024. He’s been in the CFL since 2018.

QB Jake Dolegala

Dolegala hits free agency after throwing for 2,641 yards and 11 touchdowns, finishing seventh in passing yards last season. Dolegala went to college at Central Connecticut, went undrafted in 2019, made appearances with four different NFL teams and joined Saskatchewan in 2022. Dolegala took over the job after Cody Fajardo left after the 2022 season to sign a two-year deal with Montreal, which won the Grey Cup earlier this month.
