Shawn Lemon Returning to Montreal Alouettes on Contract Extension
One of the CFL’s most feared pass rushers is back with the Montreal Alouettes on a new contract.
The team announced Thursday that Shawn Lemon has signed a new one-year contract extension that will keep him in Montreal through the 2024 season.
From the moment Lemon stepped onto a CFL field in 2011, he has been one of the most dominant pass rushers in league history, playing for seven different teams in 12 seasons.
In 148 games played, Lemon has recorded 237 defensive tackles, 101 sacks, 30 forced fumbles, three interceptions and one touchdown. Seven of his 12 seasons saw him record eight or more sacks, and he finished with a career-high 14 sacks in both 2016 and 2022. Lemon ranks 13th all-time in sacks in CFL history and is currently 56 behind Grover Covington for the most all-time.
His accomplishments include being named as a CFL East All-Star in 2016, a CFL West All-Star in 2022, and a CFL All-Star in 2022. Lemon is a three-time Grey Cup winner as part of championship teams in Calgary in 2014, Toronto in 2017 and this past season with Montreal.
He finished the 2023 season with 26 defensive tackles, nine sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one touchdown. Lemon came up big in the Grey Cup win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, recording three tackles and one sack.
Lemon has certainly had one of the more impressive careers in the modern CFL era, as he has proven time and time again to be one of the best. With the extension, Montreal has secured a future hall-of-famer who could end his career with the team.
