Toronto Argonauts Add Trio of Newcomers to Roster
In addition to re-signing or extending their own players, the Toronto Argonauts have added 12 new faces to their roster in the last week alone.
The latest trio of new arrivals to Toronto was announced by the club on Thursday afternoon. Running back Khalan Laborn and defensive backs Darius Joiner and Kary Vincent Jr. will play for the Argos in 2024.
All three have taken unique paths to the CFL and will attempt to join the likes of Dejon Allen, Q'wantez Stiggers and Shawn Oakman as American imports who found stardom in the Six.
Joiner, 25, spent time with the Houston Texans in 2023 after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Duke University. The 6-2, 200-pound defensive back was an All-Conference player for the Blue Devils after transferring from Jacksonville State.
Vincent, 26, is a former seventh-round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in 2021, who also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. The 5-10, 190-pound defensive back also played in the XFL with the Houston Roughnecks after originally being drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas and became the third XFL player to sign with Toronto this offseason. The Texas native tallied 87 tackles, one sack, and six interceptions in 39 collegiate games, helping LSU win the National Championship in 2019.
Laborn, 26, was acquired in the trade with Edmonton earlier this year, along with Jake Ceresna, in exchange for WR Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and a 2024 CFL Draft pick. The 5-11, 212-pound tailback spent time with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2023. After initially playing at Florida State, The First-Team All-Sun Belt running back transferred to Marshall University in 2022, carrying the ball 302 times for 1,513 yards and 16 touchdowns in 13 games.
