Toronto Argonauts Extend Contracts of Dejon Allen, Deonta McMahon
The trend of extending their best players beyond the 2024 season continues. As the Toronto Argonauts announced extending the contracts of offensive lineman Dejon Allen and running back Deonta McMahon.
The two latest extensions of players under existing contracts follow an ongoing pattern for Double Blue during this offseason.
Some of the high-profile names who have re-upped with Toronto beyond 2024 are quarterback Chad Kelly, wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, guard Peter Nicastro, guard Ryan Hunter, defensive end Folarin Orimolade and running back Dan Adeboboye.
Allen, 29, won the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award in 2023 after starting 16 of 18 games at right tackle. The University of Hawaii alum helped anchor an offensive line that allowed a league-low 19 sacks. Allen was a CFL All-Star in 2023 and is a two-time East Division All-Star. The California native has played in 46 games over three seasons for the Boatmen.
McMahon, 24, played seven games for the Argos last season with 38 carries for 134 yards and three touchdowns, adding 10 receptions for 64 yards. The 5-9, 185-pound tailback was a first team All-Conference player and played three seasons at McNeese State (2020-2022), rushing for 2,155 yards and 21 touchdowns while catching 57 passes for 519 yards. The Florida native was named Offensive Player of the Year and a nominee for the Walter Payton Award in 2022 after rushing for a career-high 1,408 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Boatmen's backfield has an entirely different look heading into their 2024 campaign. Gone are A.J. Ouellette and Andrew Harris. Joining Toronto is CFL All-Star Ka'Deem Carey, who will be teamed up with returnees Dan Adeboboye and the newly extended McMahon.
The entire group will be running behind one of the league's best offensive lines headed up by Allen.
