Toronto Argonauts Re-Sign Rising Star Linebacker Jonathan Jones
The reshuffling of the Toronto Argonauts roster continues. The team re-signed pending free agent linebacker Jonathan Jones directly after their announcement that they had traded away Jordan Williams.
With just over two weeks remaining until CFL free agency commences on Feb. 13, the Boatmen extended a vital piece of their defense in the do-it-all linebacker.
Toronto shared the re-signing on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday.
Jones, 26, played 18 games in 2023, recording 49 defensive tackles, 13 special teams tackles, seven sacks and one interception.
The 5-11, 230-pound versatile linebacker joined the Argonauts as a free agent in 2022, playing in six games that season and finishing with ten defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, two interceptions and one sack. The Florida native, who attended both Notre Dame and Toledo, was the Argo's leading tackler in the 109th Grey Cup with five defensive tackles and one special teams tackle.
The Argos now have Wynton McManis and Jonathan Jones back in the fold for 2024 at linebacker. Their next step will be to decide who will be playing beside them at the critical SAM backer spot. Superstar player Adarius Pickett is a pending free agent and will be highly coveted if he hits the open market.
