Toronto Argonauts Re-Sign Six Players to Roster

The Toronto Argonauts continued to make moves this offseason by re-signed six players from their 2023 roster.

With the offseason in full swing, the Argonauts are bringing back some key depth players from their 2023 squad.

Toronto announced Friday the re-signing of the six players who inked new contracts:

  • Dylan Giffen, OL (Canadian)
  • Maurice Carnell, DB (American)
  • Edouard Paradis, OL (Canadian)
  • Richard Burton, WR (Canadian)
  • Emmanuel Falola, LB (Global)
  • Alfredo Gachuz Lozada, K (Global)

Giffen is the biggest name on the list after a 2023 season in which he played in 13 games and started in two. He was first selected by Toronto in the third round of the 2020 CFL Draft out of Western University and has played in 26 games and made four starts during his career.

Carnell signed with the Argos back in 2018 but was released in the preseason, making stops with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in training camp in 2019 and 2021 before Toronto brought him back in 2022. Carnell was named as a Top CFL Performer in Week 16 and finished the year with 28 defensive tackles, one sack and four interceptions in nine games before missing the entirety of the 2023 season with an injury.

Paradis and Burton were both selected by the Argos in the 2023 CFL draft, taken 45th overall and 47th overall, respectively. Burton spent the 2023 season with the Potsdam Royals of the German Football League and finished with 20 receptions for 377 yards and five touchdowns in eight games. Paradis was cut during Toronto’s training camp and spent 2023 playing for the University of Montreal, helping the team win the Vanier Cup.

Both Falola and Lozada were taken by Toronto in the 2023 CFL Global Draft, and both played in one game apiece as rookies. Lozada connected on three of four field goal attempts and two of three extra points in his appearance, while also handling kickoff duties.

Toronto finished the 2023 season with a record of 16-2, making it to the East Final before losing to the eventual Grey Cup champion Alouettes.
