Argos Sign American Wide Receiver Xavier Malone
Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly is getting some reinforcement at wide receiver as the Argos add an American skill player.
The team announced Tuesday the signing of wide receiver Xavier Malone.
Malone spent part of the 2023 season with the Atlanta Falcons after going undrafted in the NFL Draft. He played in one game for the team in their 29-19 win over the Houston Texans in Week 5. The Falcons released Malone from the practice squad in October.
He began his college career with Northeast Mississippi Community College from 2018, recording 40 receptions for 693 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games over two seasons for the Tigers.
Malone then transferred to Henderson State to close out his last two years of eligibility, where he showed major improvement in 2021 before a breakout 2022 season.
In his first year with the Reddies, he finished with 68 catches for 970 yards and three scores, earning Second Team All-GAC honors.
The following year, Malone recorded 67 receptions for 1,382 yards and 15 touchdowns, this time being selected to the All-GAC First Team after finishing second in Division II in receiving yards and fourth in touchdowns.
Toronto currently holds nine wide receivers on the active roster after previously adding Jordan Byrd and Aaron Parker in November.
