There hasn’t been a CFL team that has seen more success over the last four seasons than the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. That’s why team president and CEO Wade Miller has decided to keep all the key staff members in place beyond 2023.

Sources told the Winnipeg Sun late Monday night that general manager Kyle Walters, assistant general manager Ted Goveia and director of player personnel/director of U.S. scouting Danny McManus will be getting contract extensions.

There was a hard deadline to get them re-signed as all three of their contracts were set to expire at the end of the calendar year. Walters received a two-year extension.

Walters has been with the Bombers for the last 14 years, holding the general manager role for nine of those years. Since being GM, Winnipeg only missed the playoffs his first three seasons as general manager. They have made the playoffs every year since 2016, and have won two Grey Cups in 2019 and 2021.

Both Goveia and McManus have been working under Walters for the last nine years. They have high regard within the CFL circles and could be sought after for other positions in the future.

Winnipeg finished last season with a 14-4 record making it to the Grey Cup before losing to the Montreal Alouettes 28-24. As they finish up finalizing their extension talks with Walters and his staff, the focus could be shifted to what changes arise for the roster and coaching staff in the offseason.
