Winnipeg Blue Bombers Bring Back Grey Cup-Winning QB
Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan favorite quarterback Chris Streveler is making his long-awaited return to the CFL as the two sides came to terms on an agreement on Wednesday.
Streveler started his professional football career in Winnipeg in the 2018 season. He played two seasons in the CFL with the Bombers, throwing for 2,698 yards and 19 touchdowns to 19 interceptions. His running ability is what he was most known for, rushing for 1,167 yards and 22 touchdowns including leading the CFL in 2019 with 12 touchdowns. He won a Grey Cup title with Winnipeg in 2019.
After his tenure in the CFL, Streveler signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020 and played for four teams in the NFL through 2022. He would step on the field with the Cardinals and the New York Jets, throwing for 231 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Streveler added 75 yards rushing on 16 carries in nine career games. He had a workout with the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears before signing with the Bombers.
Winnipeg makes the move after trading backup quarterback Dru Brown to the Ottawa Redblacks two weeks ago. There are five total quarterbacks on the roster with Zach Collaros being the starter. Other backups include Eric Barriere, Dakota Prukop and Terry Wilson. The backup quarterback battle will most likely be between Prukop and Streveler, as both have more experience in the CFL and with Winnipeg’s offense.
Winnipeg has 24 pending free agents remaining before other CFL teams can sign them starting on Feb. 13.
