The stadium that used to be known as IG Field will no longer hold that name. Instead, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ home field will now be called Princess Auto Stadium.

The Winnipeg Free Press reported Monday that the sponsorship deal between the Winnipeg Football Club (WFC) and Princess Auto will be announced Tuesday afternoon. Princess Auto is a private, locally owned tools and equipment company with headquarters in Winnipeg that has 51 locations in Canada.

Princess Auto Stadium has 32,000 seats and is located on the University of Manitoba campus. The stadium opened in 2013 as IG Field, with the first game being played on June 27, 2013. There are currently two other sports teams that play at the stadium including the college team Manitoba Bisons and Valour FC of the Canadian Premier League.

New turf will be in the stadium, with WFC paying about $2 million for the playing surface. They will also be replacing the asphalt that surrounds the field and goalposts. Work has been done on it since their team last hosted a home game during the Western Finals.

Winnipeg finished the 2023 CFL season with a 14-4 record and winning the Western Final. The Bombers went on to lose to the Montreal Alouettes in the Grey Cup 28-24.
