Ronald Acuna Jr. was the best player in the National League last season and now he’ll be the the face of Topps’ biggest release of 2024.
Topps announced Acuna Jr. as the cover athlete for 2024 Topps Series 1 Baseball in a social media post Monday morning.
“He dominated the box score, so it’s only right he scored the box,” the post reads.
The announcement for Acuna Jr. comes days after Topps released a design preview for Series 1. The new design, featuring Cincinnati Reds star Elly de la Cruz, was highlighted by neon accents around the image and team name and a black gradient at the top of the card.
Topps Series 1 is scheduled to release on Feb. 14.
Acuna Jr. was the unanimous MVP in 2023 after finishing with 40-plus home runs and 70-plus stolen bases for the first time in MLB history. He also led the National League in runs, hits, stolen bases, on-base percentage and OPS.
His appearance on Series 1 follows previous cover stars like Julio Rodriguez in 2023, Shohei Ohtani in 2022 and Juan Soto in 2021.
Acuna Jr. has also been a hobby favorite since his first Bowman releases in 2017 and his flagship Topps debut in 2018.
His 2018 Topps Chrome, 2018 Topps Chrome Update and 2018 Topps Update rookies are regularly among baseball’s most popular ultra-modern cards.
Acuna Jr.'s 2018 Topps Bat Down SP Variation is also one of the most sought after image variations in the hobby.
