Only a couple of weeks after waffling on his commitment to Florida State, five-star linebacker recruit Matthew Thomas appears set to honor his word to the Seminoles. In a statement released to WarChant.com, Thomas confirmed that he will report to Tallahassee on Saturday with the rest of FSU's freshman class.

"After meeting with coach Fisher and his staff and gathering all the information I have decided to honor my commitment to Florida State," Thomas said. "I also want to be close to my family and I want be part of what they are building at Florida State. I'm looking forward to winning games at Florida State and building towards my future."

The Miami native inked a National Letter of Intent with Florida State in February, but his saga began in May when reports surfaced stating that Thomas had changed his mind and had reportedly asked the Seminoles to release him from his NLI. Thomas told the Miami Herald he was pressured by his family to attend Florida State.

“I’ve told them it’s nothing personal. I just didn’t make the decision I really wanted to on Signing Day,” said Thomas, who picked the Seminoles over USC, Georgia and Miami.

“What happened was on Signing Day I wasn’t sure who I wanted to sign with. I had issues with different schools. But when I told my mom I didn’t want to sign with anybody and wait and give it a few days she said I couldn’t do that. She said, ‘FSU is a good school –- pick them. It’s close to home.’ I wasn’t agreeing with it. But I felt like I was being disrespectful to her if I didn’t sign. So I made her happy.”

Thomas was reportedly considering either Georgia or USC, with the Trojans seemingly the leading candidate to land his services. But Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff hadn't agreed to release the incoming freshman, which would have forced Thomas to sit out one year in order to attend another school.
