Chalk up another honor for Johnny Football. SEC athletic directors selected Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel as the conference's Roy F. Kramer SEC Male Athlete of the Year, the league announced on Tuesday.
The award has been presented since 1976 for men and 1984 for women; both were renamed the Roy F. Kramer Athletes of the Year awards in 2004 in honor of the former commissioner, who served from 1990 to 2002. Georgia swimmer Allison Schmidt took home the Female Athlete of the Year distinction.
"The SEC is very proud to honor Johnny and Allison, as they are outstanding examples of what a student-athlete can accomplish through hard work and dedication.” said SEC commissioner Mike Slive. “Their commitment to excellence have made them fine representatives of their universities and this conference. We congratulate them and wish them the best in their future endeavors.”
