Timmy Jernigan mocked Miami's signature U symbol before Florida State's 41-14 victory Saturday.

A Miami-area radio host has been fired after issuing a bounty on a Florida State player, Dave Hyde of sun-sentinel.com reports.

Dan Sileo, a former Hurricanes player in the 1980s and radio host on Miami's 640AM station, tweeted a message Sunday morning that read "in 6 weeks... I will PAY A $1000 BUCKS to ANY @hurricanesports PLAYER to TAKES THIS KID OUT #MHFREEMAN." The tweet included a picture of Seminoles defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan holding up a "U" symbol but was apparently in reference to running back Devonta Freeman.

No. 3 Florida State beat No. 7 Miami 41-14 on Saturday.

According to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, Miami's compliance office picked up on the tweets, and the school was "not pleased."

The radio station told Reynolds in a statement that Sileo's actions "have no place in sports," and Sileo's deal was terminated Monday.

After deleting the original tweet, Sileo tweeted that the bounty offer was simply a joke.

Sileo continued to respond to the situation Monday afternoon on Twitter.
