It’s no secret that USC is searching for the school’s next head football coach. Now, it sounds like the Trojans are willing to break the bank for the right hire.

USC is willing to pay its next head coach up to $6 million per year, according to a report from ESPN.com’s Travis Haney.

How serious are the Trojans? One industry source told me this week that USC is willing to extend an offer of up to $6 million a year to get its man. Yes, that’s more than Nick Saban makes (for now).

Trojans athletic director Pat Haden, who fired Lane Kiffin in an airport terminal on Sept. 29, has been mum on details surrounding the school’s wish list. Whether or not interim head coach Ed Orgeron (4-1 since taking over) emerges as a serious long-term candidate, several other names have surfaced in connection to the opening: Jack Del Rio, Vanderbilt’s James Franklin and Washington’s Steve Sarkisian have all been mentioned as possibilities.

However, a report last week suggested that USC has zeroed in on Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, who currently makes $3.1 million per year with the Aggies.
