On the heels of Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota's announcement on Tuesday that he will come back to school for his junior season, yet another star signal-caller is set to return to the collegiate ranks. Baylor's Bryce Petty told reporters in Waco, Texas, that he will play for the Bears during his senior campaign in 2014.
"I will definitely be back next year," Petty said.
The Bears quarterback, who has thrown for 3,557 yards with 28 touchdowns and two interceptions and rushed for 168 yards with 11 scores, garnered some Heisman Trophy buzz earlier this fall before delivering a less-than-stellar performance in a 49-17 loss at Oklahoma State on Nov. 23. Baylor coach Art Briles previously received a contract extension through 2023, and the prospects of Briles pairing with Petty for another year could add to Bears' fast-growing reputation. Baylor is currently 10-1 (7-1 Big 12). It still has an outside chance to win the conference, if Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State and the Bears defeat Texas on Saturday.
Junior wide receiver Antwan Goodley and running back Lache Seastrunk have yet to make their intentions for next season known, though Seastrunk did say he would like to return during a student event on Thursday.
