Between the Hashes Week 15: Urban Meyer's sadness pizza; Beware the Ice Fog
Soak it in, Aubie. Spread those tiger wings. You're a champion now. (John David Mercer/USA Today Sports)
Each week, Campus Union will delve into the fun, the weird and the wacky of college football with a series called Between The Hashes. It’s a way to decompress from the madness of the week, and to find a few things that you might have missed.
First, a programming note: obviously there will not be a Between the Hashes next Sunday. We will be operating in some capacity during bowl games, as well as offering a season-ending retrospective of everything that happened this year. I just wanted to offer my thanks for those of you who slowly but surely made your way to the piece each week. I hope you enjoyed it even a fraction as much as I did writing it.
It was the last big week of the regular season -- still Army-Navy to go -- and we had a light slate as far as volume of games was concerned. That didn't take away from the overall entertainment value. Bowl bids were secured, the national championship worked itself out, and there was a fair share of heartbreak. Now to the good stuff.
Depressing pizza is still pizza
No other picture better encapsulated the disappointment of Ohio State's *almost* season. The Buckeyes won 24 straight games over the past two seasons, but they came up empty in the one they needed most.
A personal Papa John's pizza in a golf cart in Indianapolis. Triple sad score.
Rapper's Delight
It wasn't a secret before, but Auburn running back Tre Mason got a lot of attention for his dad being in De La Soul on Saturday while the Tigers played Missouri. Mason had a game for the ages, carrying 46 times (!) for 304 yards and four touchdowns. And people offered their support.
Even Nelly was at the game, although he maybe wasn't as thrilled with the end result.
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
There weren't nearly as many "WE WANT 'BAMA" signs as there were in previous weeks, giving way to a much more creative use of poster board, which seems to be making a comeback from the days of presentations on Venezuela's national export and French versions of Jeopardy games during 4th period.
Ice Fog comin'
It was cold as all getup in Waco when Baylor played Texas, and Fox's Joey Harrington did his best as an amateur meteorologist.
More former players and commentators should get super excited about weather. With the win, quarterback Bryce Petty and Baylor earned a trip to the Fiesta Bowl, which meant awkward prom pictures with a bag of chips.
Moving Pictures of the Week
Northern Illinois wide recevier Juwan Brescacin snagged this Jordan Lynch pass in the end zone early in the Huskies' loss to Bowling Green in the MAC championship Friday.
Teddy Bridgewater had a little fun with Cincinnati's fans, joining in the cheer before Louisville played for the Keg of Nails (please let this series continue in some capacity even though 'Ville is going to the ACC).

Blake Bell's game-winning touchdown pass against Oklahoma State can't really be watched enough.

And look at these Sooners' fans reacting to the play.

Baylor danced a lot all year, and now they're crowd surfing too. Bears aren't supposed to be able to do either of those two things. Crazy bears.
The Spartans danced too (including coach Mark Dantonio) after winning the Big Ten championship and earning a Rose Bowl berth.
Quotes of the Week
After falling to Stanford for the second time this season, Arizona State coach Todd Graham put it about as well as he could have.
When asked whether he was upset at all by costing the conference money by spoiling a chance at Northern Illinois making a BCS game, Bowling Green's Dave Clawson went with sarcasm.
"We won a championship but we aren't gonna be able to buy jock straps next year," Clawson said.
And bless this unnamed Florida State player:
