Tennessee freshman guard Robert Hubbs III will undergo shoulder surgery within the next week and miss the rest of the season, the school announced Friday.

A former five-star recruit rated no. 23 in the class of 2013 by Rivals, Hubbs has been limited by the injury throughout the season and sat out Tennessee’s last two games. He averaged five points and 1.5 rebounds in 18.3 minutes over 12 games. His injury dates back to his senior year in high school

Having played in more than 30 percent of his team's games this season, Hubbs will not be granted an extra year of eligibility via medical redshirt.

While Hubbs didn’t play a major role for the Volunteers this season, he is likely to get more playing time in 2014-15, after senior guards Jordan McRae and Antonio Barton leave. Hubbs is a dynamic talent with immense potential that could be one of Tennessee’s leading scorers next season.
