Lamar announced Sunday afternoon that it has fired head coach Pat Knight.

The Cardinals went 29-62 in two-plus seasons under Knight. This season they’ve posted a 3-22 record and 2-11 mark in the Southland Conference. Lamar has lost five of its last six games and was blown out Saturday at home by Northwestern State.

Knight guided Lamar to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2012 after a famous rant in February of that year in which he said: “We’ve got the worst group of seniors right now that I’ve ever been associated with. Their mentality is awful. Their attitude is awful. It’s been their MO for the last three years.”

The son of legendary Indiana coach Bob Knight, Pat Knight took over for his father at Texas Tech in 2008 but was fired after three-plus seasons.
