Miami senior QB Ryan WIlliams to undergo surgery for torn ACL

Miami senior quarterback Ryan Williams will undergo surgery on a torn ACL, the Hurricanes announced on Saturday night. The news was first reported by Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald.

The injury to Williams' right knee occurred in Miami's scrimmage on Friday, per assistant athletic director Chris Yandle.

Williams, the Hurricanes' projected starter in place of the departed Stephen Morris, entered spring practice as the program's most experienced returning passer. In 2013, Williams saw action in four games in backup duty to Morris, completing 68.8 percent of his passes for 369 yards, three touchdowns and one pick.

Williams transferred from Memphis after the 2010 season and sat out the 2011 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules.

Through the first few weeks of spring practice, Miami coaches told reporters that Williams held the edge as the starter at the position. In the Hurricanes' second spring scrimmage on Friday, Williams connected on a 76-yard touchdown pass to wideout Stacy Coley.
