Former Kansas State quarterback Daniel Sams has decided to transfer, Sams’ mother, Sherrell Griffin, told GoPowercat.com Monday night.

"I just want my son to be happy," Griffin said. "If him staying there and not playing and using his talents and ability isn't making him happy I'm behind it 100 percent."

Sams completed 38 passes for 452 yards and rushed for 807 yards on 152 carries -- the most among Big 12 signal-callers -- as part of a two-quarterback rotation with Jake Waters last season. His playing time diminished towards the end of the year, with Waters taking the majority of the snaps and eventually winning the starting job outright. Sams attempted only three passes combined in Kansas State’s final three games.

The 6-foot-2, 207 pound rising junior switched to wide receiver this spring, hoping his speed and athleticism could help the Wildcats at a different position. However, Sams caught just two passes for nine yards in Kansas State’s spring game. He would have joined a receiver corps that already features first team All-Big 12 receiver Tyler Lockett.

The Wildcats, who won six of their final seven games, return just 10 starters but could be a threat in the Big 12.
