Mike Krzyzewski has recruited some of the top high school players in the country during his tenure at Duke. From Grant Hill to Jay Williams to Jahlil Okafor, a long line of heralded prospects have joined the Blue Devils. Of course, Kryzyzewski has had his share of recruiting misses, too. Answering an array of rapid-fire questions on Thursday's episode of SI Now, the Duke coach said Chris Mullin was the one player who got away.
In a 2011 profile of Mullin, SI’s Jack McCallum details how Krzyzewski “badly wanted” Mullin at Duke, but the Brooklyn, N.Y., native ultimately decided to stay local and join St. John’s. Mullin starred for four years with the Red Storm before being selected seventh in the 1985 NBA draft. The five-time All-Star guard played 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors and three with the IndianaPacers.
